WH has distributed over 2,000 solar lights and lanterns to 27 schools to enable them to set up after school programs so their children can read, do homework, and study for the government exams after the sun goes down. None of the schools have electricity. In addition over 300 teachers have received solar lanterns to allow them to prepare for class as well as re-charge their cell phones. The program has been a big boost to academics and school morale. Two school rooms can receive lights for about $100. A teacher’s lantern costs about $30. A program for an entire school costs only $400.
