In 2014, Warm Hearts recognized a crucial need in Malawian schools: they lacked electricity, and kerosene lamps were too expensive and too dangerous. After recognizing this need, WH distributed 2,000 solar lights to 27 schools, allowing them to set up beneficial after school programs where students can read, do homework or study for their national exams. Additionally, the lanterns give teachers more time to prepare for class and a place to charge their phones. This project clearly benefits the students by providing more study time as higher scores on certain exams qualify students for secondary schools. Additionally, headmasters have reported improved morale amongst the students and the teachers.
