    June 16-30, 2019 — Namakango

There is a shortage of public secondary schools in Malawi.  Many 8th graders pass their year-end exam and become eligible to attend secondary school, but due to financial challenges and the extreme distance to the nearest public school, many of these intelligent and driven young people end their schooling after 8th grade. In an effort to eliminate this barrier to education, The Warm Hearts Foundation and our generous volunteers in partnership with the Malawian government are committed to building high schools in centrally located villages. Namakango is one of those villages.

Namakango is a beautiful village nestled in the hills near the Mangochi District.  In 2017, expeditioners helped a crew of Malawian craftsmen as well as the wonderful women and children of the Namakango village build a beautiful two room High School building that has been serving students from approximately 20 nearby villages since last fall. 80 students are now attending 9th and 10th grade, and in the fall of 2019, our 10th graders will be ready for 11th grade, but need a classroom!

That is where you come in! We are planning an expedition for the summer of 2019 to finish the Namakango high school by constructing the 11th and 12th grade classrooms.  Volunteers from America will join the crew of Malawian construction experts in finishing the job, and eliminating any further barrier that would keep our kids from graduating. We look forward to the warm musical welcome from the local women, and the strong, motivated help from the young people of Namakango, helping to build their future, brick by (heavy) brick!  Plus, an excursion to a beautiful game preserve or resort on Lake Malawi is also being planned.

Join us on this adventure of a lifetime, in the Warm Heart of Africa…and bring a friend!
